Youth & Family
Welcome to Eielson's Youth & Family Programs! Offering caring, consistent programming for youth and teens, we're affiliated with the Boys and Girls Club of America. We offer a variety of activities to enhance the leisure time of youth here at Eielson.
Programs are designed to promote character development, educational and career opportunities, health and life skills, plus the arts and creative expression. Instructional classes are offered in a variety of areas such as dance, gymnastics, sports and music.
Youth Program – Open Recreation Boys and Girls Clubs of America awarded Eielson Youth Programs with the national Honor Award for 2006 for providing comprehensive high quality programming. This innovative recreational program provides opportunities for youth ages 9-18 to develop their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive abilities while experiencing achievement, leadership, friendships and recognition. Special events, field trips and programs such as youth sports and fitness clubs, Kid's Night Out, pet shows, talent shows, as well as 4-H clubs and summer camps are all part of the programming available to youth members. Instructional classes in acrobatics, Tae Kwon Do and guitar are also offered. The AF wide youth fitness program, FitFactor, is extremely popular with Eielson's youth. During the long winter months, the incentives and monthly events offer fitness activities and a chance to try unique winter sports such as snowshoeing, snowboarding, skiing, and snow machining.
Annual membership is $40.00 per child.
Teen Programs Teens play an active role in Eielson's Youth Programs. There is a dedicated center within the Youth Center for teens-only to enjoy during lunch and after school. Teens spend this time socializing with friends, engaging in national programs, as well as playing pool, watching movies, and doing homework.
The Teen Break is now in its second year of operation and going strong. This teen annex is located behind the bowling center. "The Break" is open for teens on Friday and Saturday night from 7:00om to 10:45pm. It's the place to be. Teens gather there to enjoy live bands, DJ dance parties, movies and special events. Transportation to the base housing areas is provided by the staff at 10:45pm.
Annual membership is $30.00 per child. Teens must have ID's to enter the teen break.
School Age Program The School Age Program is a nationally accredited program through the National Afterschool Association. We offer before and after school care during the school year and full time care during the summer and school break weeks for youth enrolled in kindergarten through grade 6. Specialty camps are offered throughout the summer utilizing many of Alaska's great resources. Daily activities include swimming, hiking, fishing, field trips, activities, sports, arts and crafts and much more. Boys and Girls Club and 4-H program activities are ongoing year round. The Boys and Girls Club program Power Hour provides youth with an opportunity for homework assistance during the school year. We offer numerous family involvement activities throughout the year such as our annual progressive dinners. We encourage our youth to support their local community through our ongoing gardening project and other community involvement activities.
